Exploitation and Alienation has played a significant role in many of Marxist Theories. Exploitation as Webster’s Dictionary defines it: is an act or instance of exploiting for one‘s own profit. And Alienation is defined as: To make indifferent or hostile. As most of us are aware exploitation, and alienation occurs in many forms, such as women strippers, underpaid workers, and many other important issues we face today.

Let us apply the theory of exploitation and alienation to gender inequality at home, and in the work place (Men vs. Women) how much is each gender paid and why. What is it exactly that is expected of women at home?  As time passes those expectations have been blurred, and have diminished over time. Even in the twenty-first century it is still assumed by some men today that a women’s place is in the home. Could this be a factor in the difference in unequal pay and treatment of women today? Or perhaps it is socially recognized that men are smarter and more competent then women are. It is a well-known fact that men are, and always have been the dominate gender, and are paid larger sums of money for the same jobs that areperformed by women, whatever that job maybe. Is this not the very definition ofexploitation? We ask ourselves why men are paid more. Most would agree that our history has taught us that men dominate over women. Women today are still fighting to remove themselves from the stigma of only being good for the purpose of reproduction, and house hold matters.

Why are women exploited and alienated by their male counterparts?  There could be numerous reasons, almost far too many for social scientist to make an educated hypothesis on this particular subject. While unequal treatment may be acceptable for men, or even a question some men even pondered, it is not so acceptable for women and the result is the feeling of exploitation and alienation by women. Women are quite
angry to put it in simple terms, which as we all know can make for an unhappy
home and work life especially in today’s society.

The fight for the inequality toward women has been a long and tiresome fight. The days of making women feel indifferent or hostile toward unfair treatment is closing in rank. On the other hand, as the decades pass, women have seen many changes in the gender role, and may I add long awaited changes to unfair treatment we face as women. Yes, men have been the masculine gender throughout our entire history, but one generation learns does learn from the other, so who is to blame for the unfair treatment of women? Perhaps we will never know the exact answer to this particular question,
but the female gender will continue their fight for equality, and we may one day
see an egalitarian society. I’m sure most would agree that the women of our
generation most likely won’t see this change occur, but as women take on
stronger roles, and demand equal treatment shift is inevitable.
