“What to do? How to act? Who to be? These are focal questions for everyone living in circumstances of late modernity - and ones which, on some level or another, all of us answer, either discursively or through day-to-day social behaviour.” Giddens
Hyper realism are real life images taken and alter in an unrealistic manner. Femininity—women and the identity of the women is something that throughout time we have see change. What defines a women now was not the same as twenty years ago or forty years ago. We can see the change and the transformation of women in art. Women have had to adjust to the changes of time in order to fit the transformation of femininity. This change isn’t only through art but also through the administration of ones self as a women. Women in the traditional form were depicted and seen (in the United States) as a symbol of sexual purity and their domain at home, being a wife and mother. This is part of what was known at the Cult of True Womanhood, a value system for women during the nineteenth. Women are now depicted as sexualized symbols who are expected to work both in and out of the home
Women in the traditional days would not speak of sex or anything that related to sexuality. The way they dressed would also be considered conservative compared to what is worn now. A women who was not dressed accordingly would be seen down on. This I can’t say has changed the line on what is and what is not appropriate now is thin however. Because the self image of women has changed though “sexualization” women have been made more of of objects then human beings. A women who is respected in society now still follows the traditional definition of a women, someone who is not sexualized. Take for instance Michelle Obama or Hilary Clinton these women are seen publicly and have to take pride and care their image . During election both women have been judged on what they wore and what their attire said about each candidate. We know this is true because we as people tend to do this on a daily basis.
Being wives and mothers is no longer a priority or what makes a women a woman. Womens domain is no longer at home, Rosie the riveter came to be a cultural icon in the movement of the working women. Because of poster and the iconic representation women felt empowered to take on jobs when the men where off at war. This encouraged many to go out and make a living to keep their households going. Just because women were going out to work did not mean that they did not have to fulfill their roles as “housewives”. The duties of the house hold need to be done and the men would not do what they defined as women’s work. This balance between women in the home and women in the work place is still a struggle for women. Because expectation still exist of women cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children.
Women are real, the depiction of women in art are not true. What is interesting to see is the impact that the depiction of women in art can have on what actually defines women. By art I don’t only mean drawings but it includes pictures that are taken and pictures that we see on bill boards and magazines.

Hyper
realism does affect gender more every day. The manner in which this is seen in
society changes slightly as mentioned in your post. Society has created a sort
of criteria for what a woman is, looks, and acts like. The examples of Michelle
Obama and Hillary Clinton are great ones because to some extent they tend to
follow the traditional role yet challenge it at the same time. Hillary Clinton
for instance dresses in a traditional fashion and carries herself in a more
conservative manner. However she challenges this traditional role simply
because she is in a position of leadership and power. Despite this, I remember
seeing ads where she was asked who were her favorite clothing designers and her
asking in response whether she would be asked this had she been a man.

RE:
This
applies to what positions of job titles are socially acceptable for women and
men to have. Even in professional fields, there are certain roles society
encourages for specific genders. Examples of this can be elected office such as
the case with Hillary Clinton. Society still encourages men to be in her
position and not a woman. This is like you mentioned in your blog reinforced
through pictures, drawings, movies and many other
means.
